2018 Booster Days

Grand Marshall

The Booster Days Committee is honored to announce the selection of the 2018 Booster Days Grand Marsh, Doug Meyenburg Jr.

Doug Meyenburg Jr has lived in the City of East Bethel since he was 3 years old and his parents moved to Coon Lake Beach. He graduated from St. Francis High School and enlisted in the US Navy, where he served from March 1968 until December 1971.

His shipboard life took him to the Mediterranean Sea where he got to see many amazing places. On July 17, 1981, Doug married the love of his life, Bobbie, and took her on the best honeymoon ever, the East Bethel Fireman’s Dance! Every year is a celebration of anniversary and Booster Days!

Over the years, Doug has been an East Bethel Mayor, councilman, and firefighter (his uniform is displayed proudly at Fire Station #1). He was president of the Cedar/East Bethel JC’s, East Bethel Community Club, Youth Coach, Fundraising chairman for the East Bethel Ice Arena, amongst other efforts. One of Doug’s proudest accomplishments was creating the Miss East Bethel Program in 1979, along with Bev Williams and Darlene Linge.

In 2004, Doug’s daughter Kellie was crowned Miss East Bethel. His love for the program was reignited and he served on the board for 12 additional years. Doug was a board member, float builder, fundraiser, and advocate for the program. He was the recipient of the Minneapolis Aquatennial Honorary Commodore's award for his dedication to that program.

Doug recently retired from the City of Coon Rapids with 36+ years of service. Doug is the President of PERM, a statewide Conservation Club that promotes equal hunting and fishing rights. His number one passion in life is spending time with his 15 grandchildren. They are the light of his life! Doug also enjoys fishing and considers every fish a TROPHY, from the very first Coon Lake Bullhead to a 60” Columbia River Sturgeon on a recent trip.
